PETALING JAYA: The Minister of Education League (MELC) -100PLUS Cup football competition will kick off with the Charity Shield match between SMK Seberang Temerloh of Pahang and SMK Tunku Anum of Kedah in Gambang, Pahang on March 17.
Sufa’at Tumin, the deputy director general of the Ministry of Education, said the Under-14 and Under-17 age groups will comprise 15 teams each, including the Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) and Tengku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (Johor).
The MELC began in 2008 with the aim of providing a platform for young players to play football throughout the year instead of carnival-based tournaments.
“The MELC has proven to be competitive in the last four editions and it will be the same this year. No team have been able to stamp their authority and win the title twice in a row,” said Sufa’at at the launch of the event at the BJSS yesterday.
SMK Section 11 of Selangor were the winners in 2008 with Bandar Penawar Sports School (now known as Tengku Mahkota Ismail Sports School) winning it a year later. In 2010, the title went to SMK Tunku Anum followed by SMK Bukit Nenas from Terengganu last year.
